Ad Immortalitatem: How politics was manifested in the Investiture Ceremonies at the Brazilian Academy of Letters During the Military Dictatorship (1964-1979)

To what extent was the Brazilian Academy of Letters (ABL) able to serve as an instance legitimization military dictatorship established in Brazil after 1964 coup? This article aims examine a specific aspect daily life this institution during dictatorship: investiture ceremonies. We believe that approach allows us analyze how politics could operate “apolitically” within ABL. argue ceremonies may have become political events because it showed, first all, proximity and networks sociability between conservative intelligentsia regime. Secondly, we identified transmission values some speeches were, at time, those environment. The examination indicates ABL contributed legitimize regime which 1964. However, did not take place through open “collaboration”, but by behavior all its members, their representatives diffusion circulation discourse.
